How do I change or cancel my loans?

To modify or cancel your Federal Direct Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized Loan:

  1. Navigate to USC Financial Aid
  2. Log in to FAST
  3. Navigate to the Document Library and submit a new " Appeal to Change or Cancel a Federal Direct Loan " form.

To modify or cancel your Federal Direct PLUS Loan or Private Loan:

  1. Navigate to USC Financial Aid
  2. Log in to FAST
  3. Navigate to the Document Library and submit an " Appeal to Change or Cancel a Federal PLUS or Private Loan Application or Disbursement " .

Requests to cancel or decrease a loan must be made within 120 days of disbursement, or the end of the semester, whichever comes first . You can find the date of disbursement on FAST. If you choose to cancel your loan, the funds you received will have to be returned, but no interest or fees will be charged. Note that if you have received a refund, a return of your student loans may create a balance on your school account.

Requests to increase a loan must be made before the end of the semester. It is strongly advised that this type of request be submitted at least two weeks before the end of the semester. Note that if you have dropped below half-time enrollment, withdrawn, or graduated, loan increase requests will not be granted.

Once you submit the updated form, allow 5 business days for processing.
